Personality
Dachshunds are not particularly easy to train because they have minds of their own. Getting them to overcome the hunting instinct and come when called can be very difficult. Early socialization is required to acclimate Dachshunds to children, strangers and other animals. This breed usually becomes quite attached to one family member, but can be less friendly with strangers.
Origin
Dachshunds can be directly traced back to 15th century Germany. However, Dachshund-like dogs have appeared in art from ancient Egypt and Mexico. During World War I, the breed lost popularity due to its Germanic origins, but these prejudices have been set aside, and the dog is again a favorite family pet and hunting companion. Standard Dachshunds were used primarily to hunt badgers, but they have also been used for other game.
