Personality

While shy at first blush, the Japanese Chin is a loyal and devoted companion to its owners. This nimble and intelligent breed loves to perform tricks and entertain once it has become comfortable with new people and surroundings.

Origin

Though its name suggests otherwise, the Japanese Chin breed actually originated in China. It was once their sole purpose to escort ladies about the Imperial Palace hundreds of years ago. Back then, ownership of the Chin was firmly restricted to nobility. In fact, they were often bestowed as gifts to honor to loyal servants of Japan.
