The Rat Terrier is a truly devoted breed. Like most small dogs, they are full of energy. They are easily trained and obedient to the owner’s command. They are generally friendly with other dogs, but may be a bit apprehensive with strangers.

The Rat Terrier has evolved over time, but originated from cross-breeding by early American immigrants. In the early 1900’s, the Rat Terrier was one of the most common farm dogs. In order to better match the dog with quick prey, farmers and hunter began breeding the Rat Terrier with Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, Beagles and other breeds.
